Tuna, Onion, Cinnamon and Chilli Pasta recipe

Most of the ingredients in this tuna, onion, cinnamon and chilli pasta recipe will be in your kitchen cupboard, as the only fresh ingredient is one onion. It’s another tasty, easy mid-week meal that is served up in no time. The cinnamon works really well in this dish.

Ingredients

  • Olive oil
  • Red onion 1, peeled and finely chopped
  • Red chilli 1, finely chopped
  • Cinnamon ground 1 tsp
  • Tin tomatoes 1
  • Tin tuna 1, drained and flaked
  • Pasta 225g
  • Lemon 1/2, juice and rind (or lemon juice from a purchased bottle)
  • Basil dried or fresh (to garnish)
  • Parmesan or cheese, grated (to garnish)
  • Seasoning

Method

Step1 

Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan and sauté the onion, chilli and cinnamon for 5 minutes until the onion has softened. 

Step 2

Meanwhile, bring the pasta to the boil in a saucepan of water and then simmer. 

Step 3

Add the tomatoes and tuna to the onion mixture. Bring to the boil and simmer until the pasta is cooked. 

Step 4

Stir in the lemon zest and juice to the tuna mixture. Season to taste. 

Step 5

After making this tuna, onion, cinnamon and chilli pasta recipe, divide the pasta between two bowls and add the tuna mixture on top. Scatter over the basil leaves and cheese.
